We hear all the time that, “children are the future,” but sometimes as adults, we forget just how true that statement really is.
I personally get the privilege of working with children in a professional setting quite regularly. I believe that it is because of my connection with kids that I notice the things that makes them extra special.
This was no exception when I met Kidpreneur (child entrepreneur), Hailey Fields.
Hailey is the creator and owner of her own lipgloss company called, Hailey Kisses.
At 12 years old, she not only loves to wear lipgloss…she is making her own!
This pre-teen has ADHD, but her struggles with focusing have not stopped her from doing and being her best.
Hailey is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, and a straight A student.
She says that she does not let her ADHD keep her from trying. Hailey has been active in her community, and had the honor of Houston’s mayor, Sylvester Turner, making the proclamation that October 15th is Hailey Field’s Day.
We have to remember to lift up and support the generations that are following behind us, and I want to do just that by sharing Hailey’s story.
At such a young age, Hailey embodies everything that FROREALDOE represents! She shares the inspiration behind her business, what makes her different, and how she encourages others!
How long has it been since you got the idea to start Hailey Kisses and when was the official release?
Hailey: When I started planning it was January 2016, and then the release was October of 2016. So, it took about 10 months to get everything in order.
What was the inspiration behind starting Hailey Kisses?
Hailey: I started with modeling and acting, and I wanted to have something to fall back on. I went to the doctor she said that I wasn’t going to be tall. So, I started thinking, “Well, I like Makeup,” and I told my mom that I wanted to make my own. My mom said I needed to prove that I was serious about doing it. I started looking online for ideas, and I ended up getting eye shadow and mixing it with vaseline, making different colors. I proved that I was serious. After that, we started to look for different manufacturers, and we found one.
What is the hardest part about being a 12 year old entrepreneur?
Hailey: I have to balance out being a Straight-A-student, being the owner of Hailey Kisses, keeping up with dance, modeling, and acting. I try to take two days out of the week to work on Hailey Kisses. I do my modeling and acting over the weekends, as well as make sure that my homework is done. School always comes first, so that is important.
So, tell me about your lipgloss.
Hailey: I have mood lipgloss’ that are one color in the bottle, but when you put it on your lips it is a different color. One is called, “Envy,” it is green in the tube, but when you put it on your lips it is a red color.
What inspired you to create the color changing mood lipgloss?
Hailey: I wanted to be different than other lipgloss lines, because I have to separate myself. I had to think of what makes mines better. I wanted to draw people in to me by being different.
Do you ever feel afraid when facing challenges? How do you overcome the fear?
Hailey: I am not really shy, but sometimes I get worried and scared. I think, “What if I can’t do it?” My family will say, “No matter what, if it is meant to be, it is meant to be.” So when I get worried, my family will talk to me and motivate me to get past the fear. I also make sure to keep God first.
Who are the people in your family that motivates you the most?
Hailey: My Granny and my Mom.
You are such a good example! How do you encourage others to be their best?
Hailey: I just spoke at an event for other girls. I shared with them all the tasks that go along with being a Kidpreneur. I encourage others by telling them, “You can be whatever you set your mind to! You can be anything in this world. You have to dream REAL BIG!”
What is next for Hayiley Kisses, any new products coming soon?
Hailey: In the Summer, I am releasing an organic lip gloss. I am also adding a burgundy color to represent Sickle Cell Awareness. I am also starting a non-profit organization to support Sickle Cell Anemia, because my Granny has Sickle Cell Anemia.
What is your biggest goal for 2017?
Hailey: My biggest goal is to make Hailey Kisses a multi-million dollar business!
